The Great British Card Company acquires The Almanac Gallery

The Great British Card Company has announced its acquisition of The Almanac Gallery, a London-based publisher that is renowned for its beautiful designs and a very strong line in charity Christmas cards, as the UK greetings card industry continues to go through an extended phase of consolidation.

The Almanac Gallery will retain its London office, although a number of business functions will be relocated to the Great British Card Company’s head office in Gloucester. The original owner and founder of Almanac Gallery, Honor Williams, will stay involved with the business on a consultancy basis.

Honor commented about the inevitability of change and said she was confident that “The Almanac Gallery is in very safe hands”, adding that she was excited by the Great British Card Company’s plans for the business and is very happy to continue her involvement.

The founder and chairman of Great British Card Company, Peter Reichwald, said the purchase was a “unique opportunity” pointing to The Almanac Gallery’s “marvellous reputation for superb design, both in everyday and Christmas” as motivating the acquisition.

The Great British Card Company started life as Paper House back in 1980 and has grown both organically and through a series of acquisitions of fellow card publishers during the late 80’s and early 90’s. More recently the company acquired the greetings card business of The Medici Society, which was established in 1908, and Medici Cards is now a thriving part of its portfolio of products.
