Kitchen and tableware specialist Creative Tops has launched The William Chambers Zodiac Fine Bone China Collection from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
Sir William Chambers (1723-1796) studied architecture in China and Europe before returning to England in 1757 and becoming tutor to the Prince of Wales (the future George III), where he was engaged as architect at Kew by Princess Augusta. During his time there he designed more than 25 structures, possibly the most well-known remaining building being the Pagoda (1762), which was influenced by his travels in China.
The collection features twelve exquisite illustrations taken from ornaments in The Temple of The Sun. These beautiful drawings can be found in William Chambers’ book of drawings published in 1763 entitled “Plans, elevations sections and perspective views of the gardens and buildings at Kew in Surrey”.
