Portico to produce LIFE magazine licensed cards

Statue of Liberty PressBulldog Licensing has announced details of an agreement with Portico that will see classic images from the LIFE photographic library appear on a new gifting and stationery range.

LIFE magazine is the legendary publication that continues to enthral millions of people each week in its current incarnation, Life.com, and the LIFE photographic library is a vast stock of pictures, many made famous by the magazine itself, that includes some of the world’s most recognisable photographs.

These include historical pictures dating back to the Crimean war, snaps of legends such as the Kennedys and Winston Churchill, world-famous landmarks like the Empire State Building, and incredible images of the world around us – ranging from shots taken in outer space to nature at its most powerful and beautiful.

In total, around 10 million pictures are available to license and combining these with the iconic LIFE logo presents a fantastic merchandising opportunity. The brand was voted amongst the top five most powerful art brands in the licensing world by industry experts in the Licensing.biz Power List 2013 and product sells in enormous numbers right across the UK retail spectrum.

The Portico range will include diaries, address books, scrap books, biscuit tins, playing cards, pens and storage boxes.

“We are very excited by this new deal as it gives us access to some of the world’s most iconic imagery,” says Portico MD Simon Harrison. “Our designers are making full use of this opportunity and the new range is set to be absolutely stunning!”

Other licensing partners for LIFE include VMC for accessories, Benchmark for bags, Pyramid for calendars and wall art and The Art Group for greetings cards and postcards. The brand also has a huge presence in the apparel sector thanks to a best-selling range from Poeticgem that is flying off the shelves in high-end fashion stores across the UK.

“LIFE is a truly timeless brand that can literally stop people in their tracks, such is the power of the imagery,” says Vicky Hill of Bulldog Licensing. “Portico are joining a host of other partners who are benefitting from the quality of this property and I’m sure the products will make a big impact when they hit retail.”
